We’re thrilled to share the latest developments on construction at Karwick Village. With the exterior work on both buildings nearly complete, we’re now moving full steam ahead on interior finishes and site infrastructure. Here’s what’s been happening on-site since our last update:
Building 1: Interior Finishes Taking Shape
Since our last update, Residential Building 1, at the back of the property, has seen significant progress with interior installations:
Recently Completed:
- Kitchen and bath cabinets are fully installed.
- Flooring is complete throughout the building.
- Interior trim and doors are being finished.
- Electrical trim-out and lighting fixtures are being installed. We’ll share updated photos soon so you can see the beautiful decorative lights at the front entrance, another beautiful detail of this community.
Residential Building 2: On Track for Finishing Work
Work on the second building continues to move forward steadily:
- Drywall installation is currently in progress.
- Painting and all remaining trim and finishing work will follow quickly behind the drywall.
- The exterior retaining wall has been constructed to support the grade transition.
Site Infrastructure & Utilities: Major Milestones
We’ve reached some exciting infrastructure milestones that bring us closer to having a fully functional community:
Foundations:
- Foundation walls for our third residential building are now complete! As a reminder, Buildings 3 and 4, along with the Community Center, are part of Phase 2, which is scheduled for next year.
- The fourth and final residential foundation is set to start any day now, and it’s safe to say that work is officially underway!
Utilities:
- The city has added a new water tap at the street, and we’re now connected to city water.
- Water lines that will service the two remaining residential buildings are complete.
- NIPSCO service connection is underway.
- While a city inspection is required before the connection goes live, we expect it to be completed very soon.
Resident Selection Update
Behind the scenes, we’re making great progress on the resident selection process. By the end of this week, we expect to have made final decisions and notified the applicants for future residency at Karwick Village.
In the coming weeks, we’ll share more information about the next steps in the process for incoming resident, including details about the legal work being completed by our student intern at the Notre Dame Community Development Law Clinic.
We remain on track for our November target to have Building 1 inspected and ready for occupancy; the exact timing will depend on final city inspections.
