We’re thrilled to share the latest developments at Karwick Village as we work toward our November move-in goal for our first residents of our affordable cooperative rental community!
Building Progress
Roofing is now complete across all buildings in phase 1, a significant milestone that protects our progress as we move into the final stages of construction. Exterior siding is wrapping up this week, and we can’t wait for you to see just how beautiful these designs truly are. The architectural vision is really coming to life before our eyes. We chose a design that is timeless and well-suited to the community’s surroundings.
Inside our six units of phase 1, mechanical systems are fully installed throughout the buildings. Our teams are actively working on insulation and drywall, which marks an exciting transition point in the construction process. Once drywall is complete, we’ll see rapid progression of interior finishes, including flooring, cabinetry, fixtures, and paint. It’s amazing how quickly a space transforms once we reach this stage.
Site Development
A significant milestone was reached late last week: the community center foundation is complete! As a reminder, this community space is our top priority for Phase 2. This building will serve as the heart of our neighborhood, providing gathering space and resources for residents. If you’d like to support this effort, please consider contributing to our fundraising campaign.
We’re currently awaiting connection approval from the Michigan City Water Department. This is the final piece we need to move forward with our two remaining foundations, pour sidewalks, and complete site grading. We’re hopeful for priority status soon, as this connection is crucial to maintaining our schedule for the November goal.
Looking Ahead
We remain on track for residents to begin moving in this November! We’re also planning a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house to celebrate this achievement with our community, supporters, and partners. More details on that special event will be coming soon. We hope you’ll join us in celebrating this incredible milestone.
