The time has come to turn our vision into reality.
After months of planning, dreaming, and research, we’re thrilled to officially launch our fundraising campaign for the Karwick Village Community Center. This isn’t just about constructing four walls and a roof; we’re creating the beating heart of our cooperative community, a space that will serve our members and strengthen our bonds for generations to come.
What We’re Building:

As you can see, this building is intentionally designed to foster community and be utilized in many ways. Molly Hannon, of Molly Christine Design, generously donated her design expertise for this important space in our community. And Global Engineering donated architectural services. You’ll notice in the lower right corner, a spacious community kitchen to share and cook meals together as a community. On the far right, you’ll find laundry facilities that will be accessible to the entire Karwick Village community.
This thoughtfully designed space will give our community a dedicated home for our shared life together. Whether it’s weekly co-op meetings, Karwick Village board meetings, sharing a movie together, children’s birthday parties, seasonal celebrations, or emergency gatherings, this building will be where our community will truly come alive.
Why This Matters Now
Right now, with our first two residential buildings nearing completion and the formation of the Karwick Village Cooperative, we will need a space for the community to gather at Karwick Village. As we expect residents to begin moving in later this year, now is the time to construct this vital hub for the community. This building will:
Strengthen Our Community Bonds. We’ll have room for everyone to gather, participate, and truly be part of our cooperative democracy. This is where neighbors become friends, and support networks are built.
Create Lasting Impact for Future Generations. This center becomes the institutional memory of our co-op. In this place, new residents will learn our values, where traditions are passed down, and where future leaders develop the skills to guide the cooperative through whatever challenges lie ahead.
How You Can Help
While monetary donations are crucial, we recognize that our community’s greatest strength lies in its diverse skills, connections, and resources. We’re seeking both financial contributions and gifts-in-kind that will help us build this space together. If you have any of the materials below, we’d love to hear from you. We are also actively looking for those in the building industry who would be willing to give a day of service and donate their time and skill set to this project.
We are approaching this build in stages, with a total of five stages. Right now, we are focusing on gift-in-kind donations for stages 1 & 2. However, please note that if you have a gift-in-kind item that would be ideal for further on in this project, we would love to connect with you.
Stage 1 – Working to get the Community Center building closed in before winter.
- Framing materials
- Roofing
- Soffit & Facia
- Windows
- Exterior doors
- Company day of service for installation
Stage 2 – Mechanicals and siding are our goals to accomplish in stage 2 of this project.
- Smartside siding
- Furnace
- Rough plumbing materials
- Rough electrical materials
- Company day of service for installation
And of course, monetary donations are always welcome. You can make a direct donation to the construction of the Karwick Village Community Center here.
Every Gift Matters
Whether you can contribute $25 or $2,500, whether you’re donating your professional expertise or a weekend of volunteer labor, every gift brings us closer to our goal. This is about more than individual generosity; it’s about our collective commitment to creating something larger than ourselves.

Building Together
This campaign, the Heart of Our Community, represents everything Karwick Village stands for: collective action, shared resources, and the belief that together we can create something beautiful and lasting. This building is Homeward Bound Villages living our mission, to create community through affordable housing. Our community center isn’t just a construction project; it’s a declaration that cooperative living has a bright future, and we’re committed to nurturing that future for generations to come.
We can’t build this alone, and we don’t want to. This is our opportunity to demonstrate the power of community cooperation, to show what’s possible when people come together around a shared vision.
Help us build more than a building. Help us build community. Donate today.
